Questions

Asked at the halfway inn

Is it free?

Yes. There is no price, no subscription and no shop.

Is it open source?

Yes, under the MIT licence: the code, the original art and music, and the game data. Third-party models, textures and fonts keep their own licences, listed with their authors in the repository.

Read the source and the licence

Do I download anything?

No. The game runs in a Google Chrome tab.

Why only Chrome?

The game draws a full 3D world in the browser and is built for Chrome. Other browsers are told so when they open it.

Can I play alone?

Up to about level 10, comfortably. After that the world is tuned for parties of up to six.

Can I run my own server?

Yes. The source is public: a Rails 8 server, a Babylon.js client and PostgreSQL. The repository explains how to run it locally and how to deploy it to a single server. One catch for now: the character models come from a separate folder that is not published yet, so a fresh copy cannot draw characters until it is.

The source and the setup guide · one rule: run exactly one Rails web process, because the world lives in that process’s memory.
